The dependency service or group failed to start


Other symptoms may include

  • A red ‘X’ on the network connection icon
  • Connection status states limited access (cannot connect to the internet)

To Resolve the Issues, Follow the Steps Below

  1. Go to the Start Menu and search for the Command Prompt
  2. Right-Click on Command Prompt and Run as administrator
  3. Type the following commands (pressing <ENTER> after each line)

    net localgroup Administrators /add networkservice
    net localgroup Administrators /add localservice

  4. Restart


Continue If The Above Steps Did Not Resolve Your Issue

  1. Go to the Start Menu and type Regedit
  2. Open Regedit to open the Registry Editor
  3. Navigate to…


  4. Right-Click on NlaSvc and select Permissions…
  5. Click on the System user in the list and ensure the user has Full Control and Read permissions
  6. Do the same for the Administrators


Proceed If a Red ‘X’ Appears On The Network Icon

  1. First ensure your wireless adapter is enabled
  2. Right-Click on the network connection icon (bottom right)
  3. Select Open Network and Sharing Center
  4. Click Change adapter settings located on the left-hand side
  5. Delete the appropriate wireless connection
  6. Close the window
  7. Reconnect to the wireless network
